Maame Abena Osaah Asamoah
Maame Abena Osaah Asamoah is a Ghanaian visual artist raised in Teshie, Accra. Her photographs gather mnemonic traces of youth and spirit, hovering somewhere between memory and dream. As co-founder of Clean Coast Initiatives, she extends that same attentiveness to the coastal environments she helps protect.

Along Ghana's restless coast, Asamoah sets a shoreline adrift, bending light to reveal presence: a faint shimmer catching on saltwater and skin. Since taking up photography, she has remained attuned to the ebb of adolescence; the young men she photographs, suspended in a briny haze.
Among those she returns to is Alexis, a surfer she first met at South Labadi Beach riding a board he'd long outgrown but refused to abandon. When they met again two years later, the board remained, but he had changed. Now studying physiotherapy and training as a lifeguard, he believes the sea must first be listened to. "It mirrors my pace. A return, a slow attunement to the lessons the sea offers in its own time."
