Heavenly Bodies

Heavenly Bodies: Notes on Fola Francis is Temiloluwa Johnson's tribute to one of Nigeria's most vital queer gatherings: the Lagos Pride ballroom, whose 2024 edition was renamed in honor of the late Fola Francis, the revered trans icon and ballroom Mother whose star power and bravado once lit up stages across Lagos. This series keeps the sequins shimmering.

Set amid one of Nigeria's largest ballroom events, Johnson's photographs move from the backstage drag extravaganza to the main walk categories: Face, Realness, Sex Siren, and Vogue Femme. "Every frame, each spin, each glossed pout leaves the lights blazing."
